Emerging from East Point, Atlanta and in the lineage of ATL rap royalty, Da Great Ape unveils his newest offering STR8 DROP. The mixtape is the first installment in a series of projects from Ape that are connected thematically with drops serving as a figurative kilogram of music to feed the streets.
STR8 DROP arrives with a stunning new Kevin Wall-directed video for standout track “Quarter Brick” featuring Rick Ross. Ross and Ape trade bars in the Atlanta-shot visual as Ape gives a glimpse into his world and the stark faces around him. YFN Lucci also makes a guest appearance on “Scale Talk” as both rappers break down the blueprint to their rise in Atlanta.
STR8 DROP is a 9-song effort that follows Da Great Ape’s debut project Last Dope Boy Left , which solidified him as one of the torchbearers of classic, gritty southern rap. The new project continues Ape’s sonic trajectory and is influenced by southern legends like Project Pat, Three 6 Mafia and T.I. – the latter of which also appeared on Ape’s track “Ape Mode” and was among the first to discover him.
ABOUT DA GREAT APE: Hailing from East Point Atlanta, Da Great Ape provides an authentic, autobiographical introduction to himself as an artist on any song he makes. Da Great Ape shines as a gifted wordsmith, lyricist, storyteller and special breed of southern rapper who earned his stripes from OG’s to narrate the “dope boy” experience in all its pain and glory. He made a name for himself in his hometown through prolific output of music and visuals as well as grassroots street team promotion around local anthems like “Out Trap Me” and “Dreams of a Dopeboy.”
He released hisdebut mixtape Last Dope Boy Left in 2019 on Warner Records, which included the standout track “Ape Mode” featuring T.I. Describing his art as “soul music,” Da Great Ape continues to rise, speaking his truth with unwavering confidence over dark trap melodies and 808s.
